Judy - I don't want my tax dollars suppoting an immoral war for oil in Iraq
- so I'll make you a deal - You spend your tax dollars to support Bush and the Iraq war and I'll spend my tax dollars to support expanded family planning and abortion services for poor women and teenage girls. -- The point is we don't get a check off box on our tax returns so we can specifically tell the government what our faith or moral values will allow us to support with tax dollars and what it won't. If I have to support this war with my tax dollars you should have to support abortion services for poor women and teens. -

Packsaddle: you stated abortion is murder so I ask you - I challenge you to put your money where your mouth is here. If abortion is murder it is so (and Judy) under all circumstances including for the life of the woman. There can be absolutely NO exceptions. That's the nature of claiming abortion is murder. Further, the consequences of the claim that abortion is murder is that in our country we don't just punish the murderer (the abortion provider) but also the solicitor of murder (women and teenage girls.) If abortion is murder then over 1 million women and teenage girls every year will have to face life in prison or in George Bush's Texas be executed. Women are willing participants in this - as your side chants outside our clinics "don't kill your baby."

Making abortion illegal - criminalizing it as murder - has NEVER stopped abortion only made it more dangerous to women. Our own history with illegal abortion is crystal clear about that and what is currently happening in other countries in the world also makes that perfectly clear. 56% of all abortions worldwide occur where abortion is legal and 44% of all abortions worldwide occur where abortion is ILLEGAL. About 26 million women worldwide have legal abortions each year and another 20 million have abortions in countries where abortion is restricted or prohibited by law. Abortion mortality rates are hundred time higher in developing countries where abortion is often illegal or highly restricted than in developed countries. The World Health Organization estimates that unsafe abortions account for 13% of all maternal mortality worldwide and they estimate that 68,000 of the more than 520,000 pregnancy-related deaths that occur each year result from unsafe abortions. (Alan Guttmacher Institute)

It's curious that anti-abortion legislators make exceptions for a woman's life in their abortion bans which is at odds with their belief that abortion is murder and on the other hand are prepared to place those same women and teens lives at risk by criminalizing abortion.
